![]() ![]() Most failures occurred in warm climates only adding to the heat buildup issue. And the result is what some people would call a "blowout". Ford specified 26psi in the tires against Firestone's recommendation. ![]() The Firestone and Ford Explorer is a perfect example. The first two result in excessive heat build up and the tire delaminates. Tires come apart as a result of a couple of things overloading the tire beyond the tire's weight rating, underinflation, or impact with an object. Regarding today's tires, tires do not simply "blow out". I see some misleading info in this thread. These trucks REQUIRE an E load rating tire. That is a completely disastrous decision. I see some people contemplating a D load rating tire. I would consider most on this forum to be enthusiasts and would recommend the Revo 2's if the pocketbook allows. They don't have a mileage claim, but most see at least 60k. The Transforce tires are designed for the commercial user. That tire is a good tire and gets no complaints from me. I had the Firestone Destination A/T on my other truck. I have the 285/75R18 E load rating Revo 2's on my truck. I work at a tire shop that sells Bridgestone/Firestone. But I work for a living and keeping a few dollars in my pocket makes me happy too! Then again, if I had a money tree, I'd be driving an exotic sport car and paying someone else to pull the trailer!!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif If money grew on the tree outside my window I'd have Revos. With tax they were nearly $50 cheaper per tire. To make a long story short, I really 'wanted' the Revos but changed my mind and had the Transforce put on. ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smokin.gif During that week I had several unanticipated expenses jump up and hit me. He ordered 6 REVOS for my dually and I waited a week. The discount was basically a few percent over their cost plus a break on some of the labor and extras (lifetime balance, rotation, road hazard.) I had the same issue this week!! A friend from church manages a firestone shop and hooked me up with a good discount since I use my truck to pull the church trailer. And although they are still only 265's, they look better and beefier than the pirelli's did. As soon as we get a little weather here in MN I'll let you know how they do. Have had them for about a week, and I think they will work just fine. The "AT" tires have a fairly aggressive tread pattern. I think your tires might be "HT" (highway) tires. They are billed as a commercial tire and are able to withstand the weight of the diesel on the front tires, when other tires might run real well on a tahoe or half ton, but let you down under the extra weight. The transforce tires are supposed to go for many miles. The tread looks like it's for highway use only.įrom everything I have heard the steeltex wore very well, although alot of people didn't like them. I might have chosen others if I did off road/towing. Never had a problem with them, but I do very little hauling/towing and no off road. ( If you own an SUV or pickup truck, we have separate picks just for you.Just put on a set of Firestones today and took off Firestone Steeltex after 60M miles and looked like I could go to 65M. The dynamic ratings chart allows you to fine-tune your selection based on criteria that matter most to you, but the best car tire picks below can steer you in the right direction. Our experts have examined the data from our extensive tire test program to select the best car tires in several key categories: all-season, performance all-season, ultra-high-performance all-season, ultra-high-performance summer, winter/snow, and performance winter/snow.ĭetailed ratings on these and dozens more are available if you’re a CR member. Given how complicated tires are, choosing the right replacements can be challenging, especially if you depend on word of mouth or in-store marketing messages. ![]() Differences among tires can have an impact on braking, handling, ride, noise, and even fuel economy. Tires look simple and can easily be taken for granted, but their design can be quite sophisticated, from the rubber compound chemistry to the tread design. ![]()
